Mimi Asfaw is a seasoned Human Resources and Talent Acquisition executive with over two decades of experience, driving recruitment excellence, business development, and organizational growth across both global and domestic markets. Her career spans leadership roles across the nonprofit, government contracting, and professional services industries, where she has built a reputation for her strategic vision, inclusive hiring practices, and unwavering commitment to connecting exceptional talent with meaningful opportunities.

As Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition and Training at CGC, Mimi leads initiatives that strengthen the company’s ability to attract, develop, and retain high-performing talent. She oversees end-to-end recruitment strategy, training programs, and leadership development efforts designed to cultivate a dynamic, inclusive, and engaged workforce that supports CGC’s mission and long-term growth.

Mimi’s extensive HR experience includes leadership roles across diverse sectors—ranging from nonprofit and consulting environments to government and international development organizations. She is also the founder of a prestigious boutique staffing firm renowned for its white-glove service, where she successfully placed over 600 employees across the DMV region and nationwide. Her portfolio includes recruitment for global and national projects with agencies including USAID, NIH, CDC, World Bank, DHHS, environmental and mission-driven institutions. She has been widely recognized for her ability to align talent strategies with organizational values and impact goals.

Mimi began her professional journey in the airline industry, where she developed a deep appreciation for global connection, service, and cultural diversity. Her travels around the world not only broadened her worldview but also instilled in her a lifelong respect for different cultures and people — values that continue to influence her leadership philosophy today. Earlier in her career, she played a pivotal role in training new hires and launching restaurant operations across multiple states, experiences that honed her passion for workforce development, hospitality, and building high-performing teams. She later led major recruitment initiatives such as a Homeland Security national hiring project, which onboarded over 50,000 employees nationwide within six months — a testament to her operational acumen and results-driven leadership.

A passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and community empowerment, Mimi continues to partner with workforce organizations, veteran programs, and nonprofits to expand employment opportunities for underrepresented groups. Fluent in Amharic and known for her people-first leadership style, she brings cultural awareness, empathy, and strategic insight to every role she serves.

Originally pursuing a pre-med track in college, Mimi discovered that her true passion lay in people, service, and organizational leadership. This realization inspired her to pivot from medicine to entrepreneurship within the HR and talent management field, where she found her calling in helping others build meaningful careers while driving business success. Mimi holds certifications in Leadership Management (Dale Carnegie) and Advanced Training and HRIS certification and is a proud member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Her professional philosophy centers on purpose-driven connection:

“Recruiting is about more than filling roles — it’s about transforming lives and helping organizations thrive through people.”

Mimi’s passion for service and leadership was inspired early in life by her father, whose discipline, entrepreneurial spirit, and integrity laid the foundation for her own journey as a business leader. Today, she continues to honor that legacy through her dedication to empowering others and leading with heart. Outside of work, Mimi devotes her time to her beloved son and granddaughters — the beacons of her life — and credits her family as the pillar of strength and love that has shaped her into the woman and leader she is today.
