Clinton van der Spuy
Clinton van der Spuy is the Chief Risk Officer at CGC, where he leads risk management strategy to support the organization’s mission of mobilizing capital for a cleaner, more resilient economy.
He brings over two decades of experience in global financial services, spanning debt capital markets, risk management, and climate risk. Before joining CGC, Clinton led climate risk initiatives at First Citizens Bank (formerly Silicon Valley Bank), where he worked on developing the bank’s climate-risk framework and advancing sustainable finance efforts. He previously served as Managing Director and Head of Risk, Financial Markets for the Americas at Rabobank. His experience also includes leading and structuring transactions in the securitization markets and providing climate-focused advisory work in both the nonprofit and start-up sectors, including projects aimed at decarbonizing the commercial real estate sector.
Clinton holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand, along with professional certifications in climate risk and sustainable finance.
