Bettina Bergoo​

Director of Affordability and Competition, Virginia Department of Energy

Bettina Bergoo is the Director of Affordability and Competition at the Virginia Department of Energy, which she joined in 2021. In this role, Bettina oversees programs promoting energy efficiency, distributed solar and storage, and sustainable transportation for Virginia's residents and businesses. She also leads the agency's energy workforce readiness efforts. Previously, she was a Green Finance Fellow with the Natural Resources Defense Council, where she split her time between increasing investments in green infrastructure and expanding access to clean energy in affordable multifamily housing.  Previous to that, she worked in the Department of Defense focused on energy management and energy resilience on military bases.  She has also worked in the off-grid energy sector and incubated clean energy social enterprises in East Africa and India. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and master’s degree in public policy from Princeton University.
